and design/development teams. Access Umbrella
has developed curricula for corporate training
initiatives and nationally
distributed programs on disability awareness
in the classroom. Media credits include advising
for television productions, and writing articles
for national publications
and textbooks. A complete list of clients will be provided during negotiations.
What Our Clients Say
Whenever I need expertise related to disabilities, I think first of Barbara Ceconi and Kurt Kuss of Access Umbrella. I rely on their depth of knowledge, ability to explain disability issues, and how they create a comfortable environment when training professionals. Their humor, and ease in helping others understand the complexity of disability issues makes them invaluable. Access Umbrella has supported our diversity training programs that have been provided to corporations across the country. I highly recommend them.

Barbara and Kurt are perfect examples of advocates for universal design. They bring both personal experience and professional expertise to their work as advisors and staff trainers in museums and other cultural institutions. As an exhibit developer, I especially value their understanding of the overall requirements of an interactive science
exhibit and within that context as advisors, their ability to apply principles of universal design.

I have repeatedly called upon Barbara and Kurt's expertise, intelligence and depth of understanding. They not only provide valuable information on disabilities issues, but they are also able to think creatively about how this knowledge can be practically applied. They are an absolute pleasure to work with-their sense of humor, enthusiasm and commitment to their work make them an exceptional team.

Access Umbrella goes a long way to giving consultants
a good name! Kurt and Barbara are a thoughtful and creative team. They have a deep understanding
of Universal Design; how to make a facility better for everyone. They are skilled
listeners, genuinely committed to making sure that the strategies they suggest are
useful, not window dressing or yet another study occupying file space. They understand
the economic realities facing institutions looking to improve their physical plant.
They know how to leverage a capital investment to give the end users a better experience. Access Umbrella should be an important contact for any designer,
facilities manager or owner that is serious about welcoming the widest possible audience
through their doors.

We have been very fortunate to have Access Umbrella work with us. Both Barbara and Kurt are accessible, dynamic and humorous. They put people at ease, so that people are willing to ask questions, which is very important. Currently, they function as consultants as we develop tours for our A Feeling For Form program. In addition, Access Umbrella has done training on general accessibility issues and specific training for our guides who lead tours. I find that because of their humor and forthright approach, people find it easy to remember the information they present.

It is an astonishing thing to see the effect that the people
from Access Umbrella can have on a project. They opened my eyes to all kinds of possibilities.
Kurt and Barbara are a wonderful asset to any design project. They bring a perspective
which causes designers to fully consider who they are designing for. In the end everyone
benefits.
